Gilbert Arenas : Going to Jail ?

Gilbert Arenas : Going to Jail ? - In the wake of Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas‘ court sentencing, I would like to know when athletes will understand that they are not above the law. Time and time once more we see the same point happening — both an individual is employing drugs, taking risque photos, or they're getting into trouble with guns.

It might be just me, but I really do not consider Arenas’ punishment fit the crime. Arenas’ sentence includes 30 days in a halfway house, 400 hours of community service, and two years of probation. Not poor for a repeat offender who tries to brush all troubles aside by saying he’s just joking. He brought guns — you know those things that could kill a person — into a locker room and threatened his teammate more than a handful of hundred dollars. Are you kidding me? Arenas had, and let me emphasize that, HAD an $111 million contract. And he was either willing, or stupid adequate to jeopardize that above a few hundred bucks? Who truly knows if he’ll ever see that $111 million once again, since if I were running the Wizards, I sure wouldn’t wish to give it to him. I’d fight to void that deal.

Arenas isn’t the only one particular who has been this idiotic though. I mean he’s had plenty of examples to look at. There’s Bengals defensive tackle Tank Johnson, who even though a member of the Bears, risked the chance to play within the Super Bowl because of his affinity for guns. Needless to say Tank wound up getting allowed to perform from the game, so no a single learned a lesson there both. Compared to Arenas and Johnson, former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress practically literally shot himself in the foot and was truly severely punished. Right after seeing that example, I don’t know how Arenas wasn’t more careful. The light sentence he received most likely won’t do a lot for Gilbert changing his behavior. Something far more will need to have been accomplished since he got off too quickly.
