This project of more than EUR 4 billion is intended to address the lack of large gauge link between the Seine and the major river system of northern Europe.
Secretary of State for Transport, Dominique Bussereau announced this week a Memorandum of project funding will be signed March 11 between the State, the Regions and the owner, the Waterways of France (VNF).
The channel, said public utility last September, to connect by 2015 on 106 km Compiègne (Oise) to Aubencheul-au-Bac, between Douai and Cambrai, in the north.
The financial investment will be shared between the state (900 million euros), the European Union (330 million), local (for a total of 900 million) and the future private partner of the project (2.1 billion ).

By 2020, 5.5 million tonnes of goods pass on the platforms between port and Arleux Compiègne.
