The workmen of the American aeronautical manufacturer, in disagreement with the direction on their collective agreement, were in strike since September 6 last. Offering an exit to their movement, the members of the trade union from now on ratified to 74% the new convention of company, one four years duration.
The resumption of work will intervene as of Sunday evening for the night shifts. The other teams will find the way of the workshops Monday.
The agreement found under the aegis of a federal mediator relates to the job security, the wages, the welfare benefits and the recourse to the subcontractors. It was to be ratified with a simple majority by the 27.000 garage hands of Boeing syndicated to the IAM.
The preliminary draft submitted to the employees envisaged in particular a revalorization of the wages and premiums of an entire amount of 34.000 additional dollars over three years. The airframe manufacturer hoped that its proposal, a rise of wages of 11% and premiums of 2.500 dollars (1.704 euros) over three years would avoid this movement.
The medical cover of the trade unionists of the IAM will remain unchanged until 2012, made a point of specifying the trade union in its text. Under the pressure of the IAM, Boeing indeed gave up removing the medical cover, in the event of early withdrawal, of the employees engaged after January 1, 2010.
“Our trade union succeeded in bringing what few Americans have: and the welfare benefit job security of quality for next the four years”, was pleased the president with the local branch of the trade union, Tom Wroblewski, quoted in the official statement. For him, the end result of arm wrestling with the direction allowed “notable improvements” compared to the original proposals of the direction of the airframe manufacturer.
For another persons in charge of the IAM, Mark Cableway, new convention makes it possible “to protect the next generation from employment in the aéropatial”.
At the beginning of October, Boeing had announced to have delivered 84 commercial apparatuses to the third quarters. A figure definitely lower than usual volumes, about thirty planes missing with the call, because of the strike which paralysed many its factories since September 6.
In mid-September, Norman Jordan, chairman of the French equipment supplier Labinal (Safran group), specialist in wiring, had declared as for him which the strike at Boeing had has “strong a negative impact” on the group that it directs. Four factories of the group, in North America and in Morocco saw their affected activity, Labinal constituting an important supplier of Boeing for his long-distance carrier 787 “Dreamliner.
He however had then refused to communicate on the cost which this sick leave could have for its group, asserting that he did not know how long the movement could last.
The branch aeronautical equipment of Safran will generate 25% of its turnover near the American airframe manufacturer Boeing, against 10% currently, when the production of long-distance carrier 787 reaches its rate/rhythm of cruising, had in addition indicated in April 2007 its executive vice president Yves Leclere.
